1st Grade News + Updated, Week of September 9th-13th

Hello 1st Grade Families!

I hope everyone enjoyed your weekends and Grandparent’s Day last Friday! I was definitely there in spirit!

This week we will be focusing on the same Spelling Words as last week: bad, red, hop, cut. A new weekly homework packet will also be sent home tonight with further homework and the spelling list.

Your child is working on a writing technique this week called a “tiny moment”. This is a strategy that helps your first grader to really sink into a topic and pull our major and key details. For example, a tiny moment is not just telling about going to a park, but a specific moment or memory about the park experience (the creaky swings or the sound of the ice cream truck coming down the street). You can try talking about tiny moments at home too! :-)

In math and science your child is focusing on comparing. In math between two numbers, and in science with observation and their five senses.

We still need parents to sign up for swimming this week! An email was sent out this weekend with a sign up list. We still need 2 parents for Tuesday 9/10. It’s so important for our kids to get the chance to get into the water, and it’s a wonderful way for you to earn your service hours! Thank you for all you do!

Mom’s Night Out is this Thursday @ 7pm at Canteen in Aptos!

Have a fabulous week! - Mrs. Settles
