Dear First Grade Parents,

I hope you are having a wonderful weekend! Here is an overview of our homework and learning focus for this week.

Spelling:
Students will receive 10 spelling words each week. Please practice these words with your child throughout the week. Our spelling test will be every Friday.

Reading:

This week’s reading is Pals Help. Please see the attached reading materials. We recommend spending 10 minutes each day reading with your child. Encourage your child to sound out unfamiliar words, especially short “a” words, and record the reading on the Reading Log sent home.

ELA / Phonics:
This week, we will focus on the short “a” vowel sound. Please help your child practice reading and identifying words with the short “a” sound.

Math:
This week, we are learning about number bonds. Students will practice understanding how two parts come together to make a whole.

Homework Packet:
The homework packet will be sent home on Monday and is due the following Monday. Please encourage your child to work on a little each day rather than completing everything at once.
