This Week: October 16th - 22nd

Religion: This week we focus on Commandments 5 through 10. We will be learning what each Commandment means and how to live by the Commandments.

Math: We are beginning a chapter on measuring weight. The “Friendly Notes” will be sent home. The “Friendly Notes” explain the new concepts your child will be learning in math during this unit.

Spelling: Long A words are our focus. We will be learning the spelling patterns ai and ay and reviewing long a words and the a__e spelling pattern.

Social Studies: We began Unit 2, “Where We Live.” This unit covers the concept of city, suburb, and small town. Students will learn about landforms such as mountains, valleys, plains, and deserts. Different bodies of water such as oceans, rivers and lakes, will also be introduced. This week students will get to make a forest or a desert pop-up scene of their choice.

Reading: This weeks story is If You Find a Rock. Students are loving this story. As with each story I will model reading the story and give students the opportunity to partner read. I will also be sending this story home so that your child can read it to you. At the end of each story we have an assessment. This assessment includes reading, vocabulary words, spelling, grammar, and comprehension questions.

Computers: We continue with our typing lessons. This week we continue to work on hand placement and typing with the U, R, and K keys. Soon students will be sent home a log in for typing.com so that they can work on their typing skills at home. Continue to read each night and record the books you have read in your AR Reading Log. Each week students have the opportunity during computer time to take AR quizzes. This week we read the story Pumpkin Jack and students took the AR Quiz on this book.
