The Virtue of Joy

Dear Salesian Family,

During this month of October, we have selected the virtue of Joy. Every day, we share a simple experience to help us incorporate a practical way to practice this virtue in whatever we do. Joy is an attitude of the heart that brings peace to our well-being. This virtue comes about from doing good to those around us. In sharing fun times, that joy wells up in our hearts and allows us to radiate it as we interact with others. This inner joy deepens as we spread it around. Our Holy Father, Pope Francis, said, “Joy springs from a grateful heart.”

As we look around us, we become increasingly aware of the many blessings God has showered upon us. Joy comes from the small blessings within! Focus on the beauty of the world around us… appreciate the people in our life, and find joy in everyday experiences.

You can take things in stride when feeling well and in a good space; it all becomes a source of inner peace. A positive attitude can help boost your ability to be resilient and bounce back from the stress-filled life that surrounds you. Reach out to serve others; you will see how this brings a special inner joy that permeates your entire person. This allows you to radiate this peace and joyful spirit to all you meet.

God bless,

Sr. Carmen, FMA

In John 15:11, Jesus says: “These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.”
